An alliance for STEM thinkers.
Empower an alliance for STEM thinkers of all genders.

Why GEMS?
Only 35% of STEM graduates worldwide are women. GEMS is a student-built nonprofit bridging the gap with tutoring, workshops, and stories — for the next generation of STEM thinkers.
What we do
OPAL (Observe, Probelm-solve, Apply, and Lead)
We've created and published our own GEMS STEM textbook—OPAL—in partnership with international education organizations. It simplifies complex STEM topics, connects them to UN SDG goals, and introduces diverse careers, paired with hands-on experiment kits.
In-person workshops
Check out our recent workshops at Baraka Little Library, teaching young girls from Egypt, Iran, and more the exciting joy of building their own racing cars using mechanical engineering or concocting boba tea using chemistry!
Hidden GEMS podcast
With past guest speakers including the first woman to earn a PhD from Seoul National University's Department of Electronic Engineering, an Applied Physics undergraduate at Harvard University, a professor at the department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience at Chalmers University of Technology, and more, our podcast not only expands girls’ awareness of different STEM pathways but also provides them with a role model, a hero to look up to in their own scientific journey.
GEMS Lab
GEMS Lab is the experiment shelf of our alliance — every video is designed, run, and narrated by students. From chemistry and engineering to coding and physics, each experiment invites viewers to explore new ideas through hands-on curiosity.
Baraka Little Library Workshop
Three days. One little library. Dozens of curious minds. GEMS led hands-on STEM sessions with young learners — circuits, code, and chemistry.
